Rani Jhansi Marine National Park In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India

Rani Jhansi Marine National Park is a protected marine park located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. Established in 1996, the park spans an area of approximately 256.14 square kilometers and is situated in the Ritchie’s Archipelago, a group of islands northeast of Port Blair.

Named after Rani Lakshmibai, the brave queen of Jhansi, this marine national park is renowned for its rich coral reefs, diverse marine life, and pristine coastal ecosystems. The park is home to several small islands, including North Button, Middle Button, and South Button Islands, all of which play a crucial role in the conservation of marine biodiversity.

The waters surrounding these islands are crystal-clear, providing an ideal environment for coral growth and marine species such as dugongs (sea cows), sea turtles (green, hawksbill, and leatherback), dolphins, and reef sharks.

The coral reefs here are vibrant and teeming with marine organisms, making it one of the best locations for scuba diving and snorkeling in the Andaman region. Apart from its marine diversity, the park also supports mangrove forests, tropical coastal vegetation, and bird species such as the white-bellied sea eagle, kingfishers, and herons.

Due to its protected status, human activity is strictly regulated, and fishing is prohibited to preserve the fragile marine ecosystem. Visitors can explore the park via boat rides, snorkeling, and diving trips, all of which offer a glimpse into its breathtaking underwater world.

The park is accessible from Port Blair, followed by a boat journey to the designated islands. With its untouched natural beauty, thriving marine life, and ecological importance, It stands as a remarkable example of marine conservation in India and is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.
