Periyar National Park, located in the Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts of is one of India’s most famous tiger reserves and elephant sanctuaries. Covering 925 square kilometers, it is one of the largest protected areas in South India and is situated in the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The park is centered around the Periyar Lake, a picturesque artificial reservoir formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam in 1895, which serves as a crucial water source for wildlife.
Wildlife and Biodiversity:-
Periyar is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it one of the richest ecosystems in India. The waters of Periyar Lake are home to various reptiles and amphibians, including the king cobra, Malabar pit viper, and turtles.

Periyar offers a unique wildlife experience through boat safaris on Periyar Lake, where visitors can observe elephants and other animals in their natural habitat.
