Manas National Park In Assam, India

Manas National Park, located in the Chirang and Baksa districts of Assam, India, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Project Tiger Reserve, an Elephant Reserve, and a Biosphere Reserve. Covering an area of 950 square kilometers, it is one of the most ecologically diverse and scenic wildlife sanctuaries in India.

The park is named after the Manas River, a major tributary of the Brahmaputra, which flows through the park and forms a natural border with Bhutan, where it extends into the Royal Manas National Park. Manas is known for its stunning landscapes, featuring dense tropical forests, vast grasslands, rivers, and hills, creating a perfect habitat for a wide range of flora and fauna.

It is home to several endangered species, including the Bengal tiger, Indian one-horned rhinoceros, clouded leopard, Asiatic elephant, wild water buffalo, swamp deer, and golden langur (a species endemic to the region). He stands as a symbol of conservation success, having recovered from years of political conflict and poaching threats.

The park also harbors rare species like the Hispid hare and pygmy hog, both of which are critically endangered and found only in this region. Manas is a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 450 species of birds, including the great hornbill, Bengal florican, wreathed hornbill, giant hornbill, and various migratory birds.

The park is also home to a variety of reptiles, amphibians, and fish species, making it one of the most diverse ecosystems in India. The best way to explore Manas National Park is through jeep safaris and river rafting, which offer breathtaking views of wildlife and the picturesque landscape. The park is divided into multiple ranges, with Bansbari (near Barpeta Road) being the most popular entry point.
