One of the major highlights of Kishtwar National Park is its population of the endangered snow leopard, which thrives in its rugged and remote terrain. Other notable wildlife species include the Himalayan brown bear, Asiatic black bear, musk deer, markhor (a rare species of wild goat), hangul (Kashmiri stag), ibex, serow, and langurs.
The park is also home to over 50 species of birds, including the golden oriole, paradise flycatcher, Himalayan monal, bearded vulture, and western tragopan. The landscape of the park is characterized by dense coniferous forests, high-altitude meadows, and snow-covered peaks.
The Chenab River flows through the region, adding to the park’s natural beauty. Trekking is one of the best ways to explore the park, with several trails leading through pristine forests, remote villages, and breathtaking Himalayan viewpoints.
The region’s untouched wilderness and rugged beauty make it a perfect destination for adventure seekers and wildlife enthusiasts. Due to its remote location and challenging terrain, the park remains one of the least explored national parks in India, offering an offbeat and serene experience for those who wish to witness Himalayan wildlife in its most pristine form.
