Dachigam National Park, located 20 km from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, is a breathtakingly beautiful wildlife sanctuary known for its diverse ecosystems, high-altitude landscapes, and rich biodiversity. Spanning 141 square kilometers, the park is divided into Lower Dachigam (1,700 meters) and Upper Dachigam (4,300 meters), covering a range of altitudes that support dense forests, alpine meadows, and glacial-fed streams.
Originally established as a protected area in 1910 to ensure a clean water supply for Srinagar, it was later declared a national park in 1981. Dachigam is best known as the last stronghold of the critically endangered Hangul (Kashmiri stag), the only surviving subspecies of the Red Deer in India. Other key mammals found in the park include the Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, musk deer, Himalayan marmot, leopard cat, and yellow-throated marten.

Due to its strict conservation efforts, visitor access is limited, and special permissions from the Wildlife Department of Jammu and Kashmir are required.
