Kudremukh national Park In Karnataka, India

Kudremukh National Park, located in the Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka, is one of the most picturesque and ecologically rich national parks in India. Spanning 600 square kilometers, it is part of the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its biodiversity and lush landscapes.

The park is named after Kudremukh Peak (1,894 meters), which translates to “horse face” in Kannada, due to the distinct shape of the mountain. The park is home to a wide range of flora and fauna, including the Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, wild dog (dhole), sloth bear, Indian gaur (bison), sambar deer, and Malabar giant squirrel.

It is also an important habitat for the endangered lion-tailed macaque, found in the dense evergreen forests. The park is a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 200 bird species, including the great Indian hornbill, Malabar whistling thrush, and imperial pigeon.

The presence of several rivers, such as the Tunga, Bhadra, and Nethravathi, enhances the ecosystem and provides water sources for wildlife. This is known for its stunning trekking trails, particularly the Kudremukh Peak trek, which offers breathtaking views of the rolling green hills, mist-covered valleys, and dense shola forests.

Other attractions include the Hanuman Gundi Waterfalls and the Kadambi Waterfalls, which add to the park’s natural charm. With its breathtaking landscapes, rich biodiversity, and thrilling trekking experiences, Kudremukh National Park is a must-visit destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and wildlife enthusiasts looking to explore the untouched beauty of the Western Ghats.
